Outpatient alcohol detox?
I was doing some research over the weekend and I noticed that some sites are offering “outpatient alcohol detox“. My first thought was that it would be dangerous, considering alcoholics tendency to suffer from seizures during detox. I had never heard of and outpatient detox for alcohol and decided to research it. Well, there aren’t many places that offer it on the onternet, but according to the national institute on alcohol abuse and alcoholism outpatient alcohol detox is just as effective as inpatient alcohol detox at a fraction of the cost. However they do specify that some alcoholics are not eligiable for outpatient detox due to medical conditions, which I took to mean seizure vulnerability.

I conclude that if outpatient detox is the right thing between you and your doctor then go for it. It can prove to be a cheaper solution than an intensive inpateient detox. However there are some issues with outpatient detox that were not studied, such as the impact that it would have on ones family. As anyone reading this who has detoxed from any drug alcohol or opiate, it can be very uncomfortable. You are an emotional mess and physically drained and often in pain. Why should your family have to go through this with you? Haven’t they been through enough hell having to deal with your selfishness during your addiction? Maybe in this case an inpatient detox would be a better option.
