Lack of Results in Alcoholism Redovery Blamed on Disorder
An article hit the news the other day that was written by WebMD claiming that a study was conducted showing that the reason for failure in alcoholism treatment is because of the high percentage of alcoholics who have anxiety disorders. Now, as a former alcholic myself, I know that alcohol abuse itself causes anxiety, especially in the longer-term withdrawal stages.
This study followed 82 participants and only 29 completed - which is actually only a 35% retention rate. Of the 29 left, they claimed half had an anxiety disorder, which was why they relapsed. The study goes on to advocate the use of medication to handle the disorder, but these medications have their own abuse potential and
