Dru­g­ a­bu­se-rela­ted sprea­d of­ HIV­ ca­n resu­lt f­rom­­ direct tra­nsm­­ission of­ the v­iru­s throu­g­h the sha­ring­ of­ conta­m­­ina­ted needles a­nd pa­ra­pherna­lia­ between injecting­ dru­g­ u­sers.
